Four siblings. No adults. A secret island hiding a prisoner-of-war camp. The adventure of their lives — and possibly their last.
When WWII reaches the Caribbean, the Smith siblings — Niko, Kate, Josh and Leo — face the unthinkable: their father is missing and officials plan to separate them into different foster homes. Refusing to be torn apart, the four children hatch a daring escape and sail to their family's remote island hideaway. But the island isn't empty — soldiers patrol the jungle and deep inside lies a prisoner-of-war camp. Battling storms, hunger, illness and constant danger, the siblings must rely on courage and their unbreakable bond to survive. A gripping adventure rooted in real Caribbean WWII history.
"My 10-year-old son read this in two days and absolutely could not put it down. Reminds me of the Famous Five but set in the Caribbean — exactly what I was looking for."
Born beneath a broken-down car, Kutchi finds the perfect family — then loses everything in one terrifying night. Narrated entirely in the dog's own words.
Kutchi begins life under a broken-down car and finds love when young Darryl chooses her as his own. Her world is warm, safe and full of joy — until fireworks send her bolting into the streets alone and terrified. She must find food, fend off danger and never lose faith she'll find her family again. Through survival, hardship and reunion, Kutchi's journey reveals how a dog becomes much more than a pet — they become family. Inspired by the author's own beloved dog. For anyone who has ever loved a dog.
"Kutchi's story made the whole family cry — in the best way. My daughter now wants a dog AND wants to read more. What more could you ask for from a book?"
Hi, I'm D.D. Roach, a children's author from Trinidad and Tobago. I grew up surrounded by books and adventure. As a child, I loved reading The Famous Five, The Secret Seven and The Hardy Boys — Greek mythology, anything by Enid Blyton — often long after the lights were turned off. I was fascinated by adventure stories with kids at the centre: mystery, friendship, courage, and the feeling of being pulled completely into another world.
Many of my stories are inspired by my own childhood memories — camping with the Fatima Sea Scouts, family holidays around the island, spending time on the sea, and visiting the islands around Trinidad with my family. Those experiences helped shape Adventure Seekers: The Secret Hideaway — a Caribbean adventure filled with loyalty, danger, family and heart. I also wrote A Dog's View, a heartfelt story inspired by my love for dogs and the powerful bond between pets and their families. It is a semi-true story, told through her eyes.
As a writer, I enjoy creating stories that feel visual, emotional and full of life. My mission is simple: to write stories that help kids dream, imagine and get lost in a good book — just like I was as a child.
"I write kids' stories filled with adventure, heart, courage, and characters young readers can remember."
